Diningroom Details

Well, after the big kitchen renovation
last fall
we left a few details unfinished....
so with a little time on my hands
and a purchase such as this !!!!
I am already to get started on finishing up projects!
Yep, that is a nail gun... and I love it!!!!
So, first project up was to figure out what to do with the wall in the diningroom.
Since the diningroom was originally a bedroom
we had taken out a wall of closets to open up the space
and make it a dining area off of the new kitchen...
it left us with this rather awkward wall.
I tried painting it but it just felt like it was screaming
for special treatment.....
not something I am unfamiliar with....  ;)
So, since the ceiling is an old style cottage wood ceiling
I decided to go with a 'waterfall' effect and
install the same narrow slat wood on the wall...

The new wood on the ceiling actually marks the spot
where the old closets were
and of course the original owner did not carry the ceiling into the closet
so we had to install a matching ceiling.
It was not easy to find the wood since the ceilings
are quite old and the strips are all single strips
which means very long wood !!
Any-hoo....getting a little long-winded here
so
next step up is to determine whether
I treat this the same way as I will the ceiling
or do I white-wash this in
a latex similar to what is already on the walls
creamy white??
Results to follow...
Oh and I am linking this up to...
 UPDATE....
I stained the beam dark brown to match the floors and I am so happy. I also think I might be able to get away with a white stain on the walls now. :)

  1. That's going to look nice! I like the lighter colour wood on the wall but I suppose it's connected to the darker ceiling so...you decide. I think the white paint would join the walls throughout. Tough decision. Show us the finished job okay? I liked your post on the restaurant with the deliciously loaded lobster roll! Yum. It's a favorite summer treat for me :-) Pamela

  2. Thanks Pamela. I know, I hope it does not take as long to decide on the paint treatment as it did to complete the wall!! :)
