Garage Envy

I just received the October issue of one of my favourite home decorating magazines
and the editor's page was dedicated to the idea of fall organization and the notion that perhaps fall is a better time to organize your stuff than spring.
Huh?

I mean, I grew up with the understanding that
after a long haul indoors we need to open up our windows from one end of the house to the other and welcome in the fresh scent of spring and get at 'er and get 'er done!

But the more I thought about it the more I had to agree...

Around here, fall is the time of year that we get into storage gear.
The lawn mower has got to be put away....somewhere.
The snow blower needs to come out and be on stand by ....somewhere.
The barbeque is usually stored....somewhere.
Oh, and don't forget about the Muskoka chairs, outdoor dining set, accent tables, large planters and on and on.
It all needs to get put away... somewhere.

And as usual, all this got me thinking about one thing....a Garage.

Our neighbour two doors down put in a garage this summer. At first I thought it was going to be a rather large addition but after a quick howdy neighbour discussion it was clear that this was the real deal....
Believe me, it has everything you could ever want in a garage.
And I love the fact that it is a separate unit....
with these fabulous garage doors.

Of course he has a sports car which needs a good winter home and like all the rest of us he
has accumulated perhaps a few too many items that need to be stored for 8 months of the year.
But, come October it will all be moved indoors and organized in his lovely garage just waiting for spring.

Perhaps he will sneak out there in the middle of winter and pull out the muskoka chairs and sit staring for hours upon hours at his well kept sports car...

But I think not....
chances are it will all stay nicely organized, everything in its place
and he will be inside in his lovely home content with the knowledge
that he now owns a garage.

I, on the other hand, will get back to work storing the muskoka chairs and all the other summer paraphernalia under the deck and in the garden shed and perhaps somewhere in the basement.
Yep, some things might never change...
Am I the only one "sans garage" or do you deal with the same storage issues as me??

  1. We do have a garage Donna, but it's a juggling act to put away those lawn chairs, garden things, pots etc. There never seems to be enough room! We even have a shed that gets jammed full! Your neighbour's garage sounds perfect! Have fun juggling from summer to winter. :)

  2. We do have a garage, but even still, we have trouble storing everything. We like to keep both my car & my husband's truck in the garage in the winter so we don't have to brush off the snow all the time. With both vehicles in the garage, there's alot less room. Of course, we have all the pool stuff to store now too. I guess there's never enough room anywhere!
