Jackson

This summer we had to swallow hard and say goodbye to our beautiful lab and family member, Chelby. He still adorns the bottom of my blog as my faithful follower and will continue to hold a loving spot in all of our hearts.
Chelby

If you are a dog owner you know how quickly animals become part of your family and you understand how attached you become to a dog that is with you for close to 13 years. Chelby was adopted when he was a little older than 1 and he came with a cage that had obviously been his home for 12 hours of the day. It took us about 2 months to convince him that there was life beyond the cage!

So two months later we find ourselves adopting another young dog looking for a home...
Jackson.

Jackson is a 9 month old Golden Doodle and full of energy. His owners have not had any time for him so he has been basically spending 12 hours of his day alone in a house waiting for them to return home. Apparently a walk once a week was all they could manage so they made the decision to put him up for adoption.

He is still confused and unsure of his surroundings. He has already had 3 walks within his first 24 hours here which he obviously enjoyed. However, Jackson has not eaten yet which is somewhat worrisome. But I am thinking that it is all still new to him and he is still trying to figure out what is going on.

So in the meantime we are taking small steps to help him understand that this is home.
You can see more photos of Jack here and here.

  2. So sorry to hear about Chelby. We lost our cat Sheeba this summer, it is heartbreaking. I am sure Jackson will settle in soon and the many walks he will have.

  3. He is adorable. I am always stunned how people get animals and don;t care for them. He is so lucky to have found you. I found with my fosters that they may not eat but will usually take fresh chicken bits or treats from the hand at first. Despite their miserable treatment they do mourn the original owner. Day 7 and week 3 is when you will see the best changes. Congrats on your new boy.

    1. He started eating tonight! He had a few hours of play outside with his new toy and worked himself up an appetite.

  4. Oh Donna he is so cute. He is lucky to have you and he will eventually eat. Razmataz is right, he probably still mourns for his old owners not knowing any better.
Can't wait to see more pictures. Linda

  5. Jackson is a sweet looking fella. I can understand you wanting to adopt again so soon and I'm glad his former owners knew to give him up to a good home. I see he's started to eat. :) I think he's happy now don't you?

  10. What beautiful dogs! I'm sorry you lost Chelby. He looked like a wonderful doggy. That's the hardest part of having pets: their lives are just too short! Jackson looks like a real sweetie-pie.

  11. I'm so sorry to hear about Chelby. I'm so not looking forward to that with Juno, but she is getting old so I know it won't be long. Jack looks adorable and I bet he will soon win your hearts and he will begin to trust him.

I"m working my way backwards in reading posts so I wanted to say that I'm so impressed with your backyard renovations. What a huge project. I always think it is funny how land looks pretty flat in pictures when in real life they are very hilly. I presume that your backyard is more sloping than it looks if you are going to all that work. It is going to look amazing. ARe you going to put any trees or bushes in?
