For the love of .... La Salade

Okay so I spent an entire week on the Gaspé coast....without my camera!!
I was so upset with myself.
And somehow I could not convince myself to suck it up and pull out my iPhone camera.
Nope, I pouted the entire week.
Anyway....enough of that.
The Gaspé coast is still as beautiful as ever.
Trust me.

We continue to focus on our eating around here
and last night was no exception for the Father's Day meal.
My nephew joined us and once again displayed his amazing talents when putting together
a salad which is not only a feast for the eyes but the palette as well.

Can you smell the ginger?
He talks about the combination of bitter, sweet, sour, spicy and salty when creating raw food dishes
and I have to tell you....it works.

His training in raw food preparation was enjoyed by all and
the combination of flavours was amazing....

fresh spring mix of lettuce (arugula, baby romaine, leaf lettuce)
sweet long red peppers
mushrooms
avocado
cucumber
shaved fresh ginger slices
olive oil
maple syrup
squeeze of lemon juice
salt and pepper.....

Now we were all wishing that we were enjoying this outdoors
but of course that is not the case....
I am hoping that is not the sign of summer to come.

Oh and just wonderin'..... do you "plate" your salads are you a salad in a bowl kinda person?

  1. That looks yummy.

I haven't given it much thought, but we do both.

I hope you had a good time.

  2. Forgetting one's camera would be SO disappointing!! I'd be really mad at myself but I would be using my iPhone instead. I'm sure The Gaspe is just as beautiful as ever though. We always have our mind's eye to remember don't we? We have our salads both ways depending on if there is other food to go with it. Then it's a plate. Just a salad? Bowl. This salad sounds delicious and very savoury.

  3. That is a feast for the eyes! Looks delish!

I usually "bowl" my salads, but to tell the truth, I think they're tastier when plated! :D

  4. this looks so wonderful. I'm interested in his dressing too, he put maple syrup in it? I really want to start cooking and eating more 'clean' foods as my son calls them. But I need a cook book. I just don't have the creativity to make up new dishes made primarily with vegies and fruits. I'm pinning this salad.

  5. What a gorgeous looking salad, the combination of flavours sounds interesting, too. I plate my salad. I have an iPhone 5 and it takes really good photos, so you missed out not taking photos, girl, you would have gotten some good ones! :)
    Have a good week.

Sometimes I plate - sometimes I bowl - I'm funny like that - not consistent with anything in my life!

    Have a good one Donna

  8. It's funny you should ask that. Trip prefers his salad in a bowl, and I prefer a plate! ;P

This salad looks great. Thanks for posting the recipe. You should share this with Jane @ Jane's Adventures in Dinner. She will be featuring salads soon (read one of her latest posts about it)...

  10. The weather is horrible in France as well and meteorologists are being interviewed every day on TV by journalists who wants to know if the whole summer will be that awful...
