Approaching Normal

Life is slowly getting back to normal around here.
We have had construction guys in and out over the last few weeks.
The weather has become a major obstacle and caused several delays.
It all started with rain and ended with this lovely white stuff.

At the end of every day I have tried hard to piece our home back together.
Replacing windows and the entry door has been a huge job
and a dirty one.
And of course we were not just replacing old windows with new ones ...
oh no...
we decided to replace these 70's style windows with much larger ones which would
expand the views from the bedrooms.
And we also replaced the single entry door with a double entry door.
We did keep the same sized windows on the front of the house as they are already quite large.

Now that the windows are all in upstairs
I have been able to get my office assembled.
That is almost ready to share....not quite...but almost.

You can still see remnants of the "workmen" in the house.
Slipcover for the ottoman is in the wash.
I feel like I am forever dusting.....oh boy.... I despise dusting.
The house has been feeling quite grey.... sort of B&W if you know what I mean.

If you look closely at these photos you can see that there is still some taping to be done for the drywall... these armoire doors will soon have to close up for that project.

I just needed some sanity last night so I re-filled this armoire with cook books etc.
Perhaps jumping the gun,
as workmen are expected here tomorrow to finish all the details.

To the right of this image is a stack of wood trim that will go around each window on the outside of the house as a finishing detail.
That was how I spent my weekend.
Of course given the arrival of snow I did not want to leave that trim exposed until next spring....

Anyway, details....all details now.
I am looking forward to the next step which will be decorating for Christmas.
Have you already started??

  1. I just love your home, even under construction. It is so cozy and welcoming.

  2. Your house looks awesome dusty or not!!!!! i am in luv with the cabinet...so much character!!!

  3. Beautiful. I love this cabinet!!

  4. Your library area looks gorgeous! I love the cabinet and the arrangement.

  5. Renovations are a real mess aren't they? And that gyproc dust gets into every nook and cranny. But it's so worth it in the end. I know you'll be very happy with the finished results and will perhaps enjoy a warmer house too. I have started a bit of decorating - always my hutch first. The vertigo is keeping me slower this year. Have fun. I can't wait to see the finish.

  6. It is so difficult dealing with construction in the home, but you know it will all be worth it in the end....even all the dust will be worth it eventually. :) I can't wait to see it finished. I haven't begun decorating for Christmas yet. I'm holding out until next week.

  7. Well I can't see one speck of dust or one bit of trim needed or anything. It all looks fantastic. I can't believe you are having windows done at this time of the year (I wasn't even sure they did them now). It's going to look amazing at Christmas (and like childbirth you will soon forget the agony of the renovation).

  8. I will take your construction over mine ! But I agree dust is the enemy in any reno. So yucky, coats everything and clings to ever little thing. When we move back in I am hiring a lady to come and help me clean everything before we set up the new kitchen. Can't wait to see your Christmas decor, mine remains hidden in totes in the barn. Hope your week goes well. Patty/NS

  9. I hate dusting too, but it'll all be worth it in the end. Love how you displayed the cabinet, as always your home looks so elegant, I can't wait to see all the finished results.

  10. I know how exactly you feel about the dusting... I've been doing that for ages since I'm constantly renovating something! I love your knew front door: definitely worth the dusting!

  11. I absolutely love your home, dust or no! Looking forward to seeing your Christmas decorating!!

You can leave a comment....totally up to you....Yep, I do love it when you do!
