Gallery Wall on a Saturday Afternoon!

 Gallery Wall Complete!

If you read my post, Time for a Gallery Wall? then you will know that I have been wondering what to do with this rather large wall at the end of our living room.
This is feeling like a big risk, nails, multiple nails are going in to this wall.  Not everyone around here is sure about my decision but hey, it is only a wall...right?

So...here is how it went...

The Before!!
The process began this way, assembling all the pieces of art that I had to work with.  I threw in a mirror as well.

I was not sure where to place the mirror even though I had my layout already conceived on the floor.  Lighting was such an issue.

With the addition of each piece I got more and more excited about the potential results!

At this point there felt like there was no turning back on my arrangement...but still loving it.
Almost done!
Et Voila!  Still lots of room to add in more artwork but it adds such a beautiful touch of warmth to the room that you want to be there.

Now an inspirational spot to read!

The after shot.

So, although, this felt like a risk, everybody seems  happy! I think the kitchen reno, which felt like an even bigger risk put them at ease....or made them decide that I was a run-away horse!!

Down To The Details

Well here is my Friday project, 1 1/2 hours!  Well, quite easy to do since my new best friend is velcro!
Our relatively old washer/dryer set has a few rust stains on the washer (easily seen on the bottom of washer at left) and really are not that nice to look at.

I tried to rig up a curtain rod....didn't work....tried to extend one of those wire curtain hangers....did not work...so finally I went with velcro. At Christmas we hung up some beautiful red velvet to hide the washer/dryer but it was a temporary solution and although nobody realized it was done with duct tape.  Of course, not practical when it came time to wash clothing.

So, here is the new solution.  I love the fact that I can have different curtains in this spot at different times of the year.  I now need to sew on velcro to the velvet ones so they are ready for Christmas 2011.

I bought the industrial form of velcro and stuck it on to the underside of the countertop.

Once I sewed a "tuck" across the material so that it hangs nicely, I then sewed velcro across the entire top of the material.
For small loads of laundry from time to time I can just lift it up and set the curtain on the counter, otherwise I simply pull it off from the velcro (which is stuck under the countertop) and get busy with my laundry.
curtain/smart way to hide your washer and dryer

Cost: $30 materials
          $ 5 velcro

Charlevoix: Tadoussac

Simply.... A Must See! (3 hours of driving from Quebec city)

Okay, I am sitting here dreaming of summer....warm temperatures, drinks on the deck, swims in the lake and on and on.....BUT...it is -30 again tonight, it will be again tomorrow!
But I can close my eyes and remember last summer at least...and dream of the next!!
La vie est belle mais....perhaps more so in the sunny days of summer....

So, I close my eyes and think back to last summer and imagine the one to come.....in Tadoussac!

All photos above are compliments of Caroline Balcar!  Merci Caro!!!!

My eyes are open now, I know that I have to soon decide which coat will warm enough for me to wear while walking the dog but still...it was nice...for even just a short while.

So, in the depth of winter, and with a good crackling fire going strong in front of me I can close my eyes, picture myself at an outdoor café sipping a glass of wine, chatting with friends and enjoying the beauty of Tadoussac!

Winter? You're Late!

I woke up this morning to discover that winter has arrived!  Rather late I would say.  It was here in December and made a few brief appearances, left behind a small amount of snow...well, by our standards and then left again.

These are all views from the window.

We headed over to the lake for a good skate!  This time I took some photos to share of the homes that surround the lake.  Small lake.....huge homes!

View of Manoir St. Castin from the lake as the sun was heading down!  Brr....it is colder than it looks!

So, welcome back winter.... better get out there and enjoy!!!
