Several years ago I inherited a large TV cabinet that my father made. It was that large box-style armoire that was intended for one of the old large televisions (cough...the kind that I still own). Anyway....it took up a lot of space in the basement and really felt in the way. But, I could not imagine parting with it given the link to my father.
So....(and I wish I had some before photos but nonetheless you will get the idea)
I removed the frame which acted as a base support on the bottom,... its legs more or less.... and then simply cut the whole piece in half.... vertically.
Et voila.....
I think my papa would be happy that I found a way to re-purpose this piece....and perhaps it will travel through our family now as the music centre....at least until its next transformation!

I may change the handles but for now I am keeping the originals. |
I had to add a strip of wood between the wall and the unit so that the cords can run up the back of it versus along the side. |

Its great that you have been able to give a piece with such sentiment a new purpose, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Amanda. It was such a great solution given that we really had not place for it. Hanging it on the wall has given it a whole new life!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. You are too, too clever!
ReplyDeleteFabulous new life and new memories for that lovely piece. Thanks so much for joining me this week. have fun!~ XO
ReplyDeleteI think it's wonderful that you were able to repurpose a piece that has so much meaning to you!
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful cabinet!!
And don't worry...I just got rid of my huge TV a couple weeks ago...and only because the old one finally died. ;)
Thanks for the positive comments. I have a hard time getting rid of pieces that have a "face" behind them.
ReplyDeleteErin: So glad to hear that I am not the only one with a big box as a TV. One day, and probably....like you, when our old one dies. :)
It beautiful - and how special to have a piece like that! Great idea- thanks for sharing at Feathered Nest Friday! :)
