St. Andrews by the Sea - New Brunswick

Promise...
yes I do...
this is it for the Maritimes posts...
but you see...
we had to make one stop on our way home from Nova Scotia...
St. Andrew's by the Sea,
New Brunswick!
Yep, this was our last stop....
the Bay of Fundy is known for having the highest tides in the world!!
Impressive, don't you think??
Well, it was enough for us to turn our steering wheel west
when leaving the ferry in St. John!!

Of course my credit for a free night at the local Fairmont hotel helped convince us too!!!
We were approximately 10 metres from the shore at this point so
that gives you an idea!
Actually, this youtube video may give you a better understanding.
This fisherman was making use of the low tide and cleaning the hull of his boat.
the number of sailboats in the harbour were matched by the number of small
boats at the wharf!

Again, a similar door to the robin-egg blue from Chester.....hmmmm.....
we do have a new door in our future!!!  Maybe that style is it!!

And...of course
this village holds its own unique beauty in regards to architecture.
Something out of a children's fairy tale book??
and then again...
very similar to Nova Scotia...
the homes in the downtown area all had this special charm!!!

 check this one out.... gor-geous!!!

We also chose to take advantage of some points and stay at the Fairmont Algonquin Hotel
very lovely, very old and very good food!
Oh an they have their own beach...
And then,
with much hesitation we packed it up and headed home
back to Québec...
so that was it for the Maritimes
but we will be back to explore this wonderful
area...
Fare thee well!!!

Finale- Maritime Travels

Nova Scotia trip came to an end in Lunenburg
I could stay forever ....
how about....
fresh lobster at 7$ a pound from the dock and
cooked up for us by the fisherman right on site!
Mason's Beach
outside of
Lunenburg, Nova Scotia!

Lunenburg is a must see for anybody heading down to Nova Scotia!
and then of course the town is
home to the Blue Nose...
which is presently under repair in a large building in the harbour
I could not possibly do her justice!
But, I will share some images of the colours of Lunenburg....

Not sure my neighbours would appreciate these colours but they
look fabulous all over this village!!
Of course there are many lovely looking restaurants here but only one
had us coming back...
and that was the Knot Pub...
The chowder is so amazing and the prices are outrageously cheap!
the mussel chowder is slightly richer in flavour but I think the fish chowder was the winner
for me in the end!

Lunenburg, Nova Scotia

We ended our Nova Scotia trip
in Lunenburg...
in a sweet spot by the side of the ocean!!
Amazing coast line with the effects of the Atlantic Ocean
everywhere you look...
Rocks of all shapes and sizes are washed ashore .....
and in their midst you can find...
Jellyfish!!!
Careful!
Although the walk along this beach was not easy,
it was so beautiful I was really wishing I had more than my iPhone
with me as a camera.
But, here are a few shots of what greeted us outside our
door!

Maritime Travels: Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia

 Summer travels still under way..
and on to the lovely village of Mahone Bay!
The homes here that dot the shore line are
simply stunning...
I love the cedar shakes,
the gorgeous windows and the simplistic beauty of these buildings
that face the ocean.
The rose bushes are so stunning and inspire me to attempt the same at home but I am not sure I have enough sun or the right soil. Hmm.....

I just love this hit of red on this beautiful old home. Again, gorgeous doors!
This appears to be the typical Maritime entrance. A small enclosed porch to keep out those harsh winds.
.
Everywhere you look
people have painted their homes and decked them out with window boxes.
Simple yet so cute!
More cedar shakes....
seems that a lot of these homes are summer homes and
this one still has its windows boarded up from the inside?
I love this home-made fence!
Well, next stop Lunenburg, Nova Scotia!!

Maritime Travels: Chester Nova Scotia

Summer holidays everyone...
I have been travelling around
the Maritimes...
and lovin' every minute...
we left Quebec city and drove to Halifax..
interesting city with lots of history
but the downtown core is looking a little forlorn...
Few photos to show from the city but
some really old buildings line the main street that are just waiting to be fixed up...
so in the end we found
only a few stores for shopping!
Oh well...
saved some money and headed along the coast,
leaving the city
along the Lighthouse Route
which has been the best part of our trip so far!!
And,
first stop is
CHESTER,
Nova Scotia.
How cute is that!! Lovely robin-egg blue door with a sea shell knocker!!!

No fence...but what a cute entrance gate...I love it!!
I would love to check out a book here
at the town library in Chester...
with a fabulous garden!
lovely fences everywhere....
Look at the top of the image...
The door on this home is just stunning and of course the detail in the trim finishes the look.

That's it...
Next stop......Mahone Bay!!!

Charlevoix Travel

No suprise to anybody that knows me...
I love the Charlevoix region of Quebec...
It seems to be my favourite area to write about
since
I already posted about this region here

travelling through all the small villages on my way to Tadoussac
is what makes the trip so interesting...
and of course...
a must is to follow the route...
362 when you leave Baie St. Paul.
This time we hit Baie St. Paul by lunch which meant a
 stop at the restaurant...
the menu is small and the food local...
and the experience unforgettable!!
I had the lamb burger with local Charlevoix lamb
and my friend loved the salmon...
I will be heading back...that is for sure!!
This is the church in the heart of the village and the point at which you turn to follow the 362.
Just outside of Baie St. Paul near the exit for Iles aux Coudres.
typical homes that dot the countryside...
notice the roof slope.
This year we stopped in Cap à L'Aigle at the gardens,
6 dollars to get in and if you make it there by mid to late June
then you get
to enjoy the lovely variety of lilacs.
I have to admit we were a bit between seasons but the wild roses
were gorgeous!

These gardens are approximately 30 minutes from Baie St. Paul.
I think probably though,
my favourite part of any of these trips is this....
admiring these lovely wooden homes!
The verandas are enticing!

Oh, and linking this up to mosaic Monday at the Little Red House!

The Mini Rose bush

 Who knew?
Take one of those small grocery store rose bushes slash plants,
plant them in your garden
et voila....
creamy white...
one year old and the orange are from this season...
and brought by a friend from her
garden to my home!!
Lovely!!
Definitely I will be planting my next small grocery store rose bush....outside!!!

Prince William and Kate in Quebec city!

Well, we had some pretty popular visitors here
 today...
popular in a good way for the monarchists
and in a bad way for the separatists!!
Since the view was fairly limited and the security so tight
the protestors ended up providing most
of the entertainment....
I have a feeling this baby has no idea was all the fuss is about!!!

The riot squad never kicked into action but they were ready...

At first I was on the other side with the protestors but eventually found my way
around them to the calmer side....
The security was tight of course...
as expected...
and the visit was short.
They arrived in Québec city in the morning and left
by the end of the afternoon.
We were all surprised that they would even come here....
but off they went to Charlottetown PEI.
I am sure the reception there will be quite different than here!!
