Armoire full of treasures

This project started with a pair of windows that I purchased in 2012 on Kijiji.
I knew right away that they would be great doors for an armoire....

And they would also provide me a solution to temporarily hide the ugly old chimney hole that you see in the upper right section of the image above.

...and make a permanent home for my treasured wood carvings.

My father was a business man who discovered in his early 70's that at his core he was an artist.
I remember him telling me that he wished he had known years ago how much he would enjoy
sketching and carving and painting.
He seemed to sense a loss in time for this new found love...
but
once he got started he did not waste a minute in learning about the art of carving.

These were his early attempts at carving which became my favourite pieces of all his work.
He found them comical and I just fell in love with these whimsical little figures.

So now I finally have a home where they can be displayed.

The armoire itself was easily built with a simple box construction and I have hopes to fill the
right hand side with white pottery ....
I have been experimenting with what I have right now.

and just maybe fiind another set of windows to close in the right hand side which would mean
constructing that part as a more permanent structure as right now it only serves to hide the
chimney.

Eventually I will move this into the diningroom to be used for dishes and glassware.

But for now it provides a good spot for my cookbooks which can be read in one of these old
leather chairs as I look towards the other end of the room at the fireplace.
