The Making of a Dorm Headboard
Decorating a dorm room depends on several factors....
what you start with is a biggie....
and how important the space is going to be to you is probably another.
Emily wanted to be comfortable and
she started with this.....
which made our decorating challenge all about the bed.
(Click on the image if you want to see the entire room in its before state)
The easiest and most fun fix was to design a headboard.
Of course dorm room decorating is also about budget.....
We aleady had a few scraps of material and some old cushions
which meant that we only needed to pick up a small piece of plywood.
Nothing fancy yet..... |
et voila ready to go... |
We also had an old bed skirt that helped to give the bed a more cozy feel....
AND of course as with all dorm rooms there can be a need for some creative thinking,
which in the end led us to design an extra shelf behind her headboard...
It also means she can now lean back against her headboard without it moving.
We needed to install a small brace at the bottom as well.
Of course a cold tile floor is not too nice to wake up to,
so the addition of a little micro-fibe knotty rug took care of that problem...
along with some cushions on the bed....
and she was all set.
But it does not stop there,
