No, I am not suggesting that I create a bathroom slash study....although I readily admit that perhaps there is a bit of reading going on in there. I always seem to find ways of
reading my favourite mag while soaking in the tub.
Balancing act for sure but ... you probably do the same....don't you!!
I seem to be drawn to a more classic bathroom.
Less modern.
Perhaps a tad vintage?
And right now I have lots of questions that I am pondering.
I have been wondering about lighting.
We have two dated ceiling pot lights....that's it, that's all.
I want something around the mirror that will provide good lighting for all those little delicate tasks...
such as applying wrinkler remover cream.....
I swear it is because I cannot see what I am doing....but nothing is working!!
Which is better?
Overhead lighting or
side lights on the wall on either side of the mirror?

Oh, I am loving this last image and it almost has me convinced that I could indeed go with the shower in the tub option....
and that is about the size of our bathroom....about....
Well, I am off on a little road trip, taking my camera with me and will be doing a little shopping for the deals.
Oh and please do what Marina did....post a link to your bathroom in the comment box if you like.
She did and it was so much fun to head over to Spain and peek into her bathroom with the block glass wall....
Yes, I know it would have been more fun to actually be there....but hey, you take what you can get....right??
Oh Donna I love them all!!
ReplyDeleteHave fun on your road trip! Can't wait to see your pics.
You are very funny Donna! thank your for your comment about my bath. You are great!

I love the first and last photos Donna. They really appeal to me. Good luck with your hunt for ideas!
ReplyDeleteI love them all! It seems that you like predominately white with touches of black with brass or nickle. You also like predominately white with bluish gray with darker grout on the floor with nickle. Also, a couple of those photos have a natural wood element.
ReplyDeleteI think it is traditional with a touch of industrial or salvaged. Number one and number four are similar in color scheme to your kitchen.
I don't know what is better in regards to the lighting per se. And I do like both looks. But in a smaller bath there is a potential danger of banging your head into the side lighting.
This is the bathroom we finished in October. http://butterflyandbungalow.blogspot.com/2012/10/bathroom-10.html
I love the third bathroom. I would be horrified to share our only bathroom at this time. It's dreadful! It is a project we do hope to begin in late summer. I hope you get exactly what you want!
ReplyDeleteDo not use overhead lighting for anything near a mirror! We made that terrible mistake and can now only go out with bags over our heads... the downward lighting casts shadows on our faces and makes it difficult to apply makeup or manage stray hairs and acne. No matter how much I squint or tilt my face towards the glowing bulb, I must still correct my errors in my car's rearview mirror. Although, if you are as beautiful as your taste in home design, you won't have to worry about the lighting!

ReplyDeleteI feel the need to tell you that I have no tub in the house. I miss a tub once in awhile. I do have three shower heads in our master bath shower though so it's not all bad. ;) Have a fun road trip!
ReplyDeleteI'm all for the vintage look in bathrooms, too. Get yourself a vanity in the bedroom and you can have whatever kind of lighting you like in the bathroom. I read in the tub so my lights are on a dimmer switch. I can turn them up to read and lower them for ambience the rest of the time.
ReplyDeleteHi Donna, I love the vintage bathrooms that you've shown, all the tile on the floor and on the walls, makes my heart go pitter-patter.
ReplyDeleteThe light in my bathroom is directly above the mirror over the sink and it works very well to show up my wrinkles. :)
Have a wonderful weekend. Cindy
I love the first one - the pretty floor tiles that wouldn't show the dirt, the gorgeous white subway tile (you must have white subway tile), the vintage feel, and the pretty shower curtain.

ReplyDeleteWell, I'm not surprised at all because we have the same exact taste in bathrooms! love white baths with black and white honeycomb tile. I love the third bath you've featured....LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteAll those bathrooms are lovely, and classic enough to last.
ReplyDeleteThose are some gorgeous bathrooms!
ReplyDeleteI love vintage - and yet I also love stark modern clean white bathrooms -
I guess as long as they're white I love them. period lol
Can't wait to see what you end up choosing!
Hugs,
Suzan
Sorry, I haven't ben visiting much lately... I'm kind of busy-busy with the renovation. I've caught up with all your posts this morning over tea and I'm very expcited about "project bathroom"... I plan on redoing mine in 2030 (don't laugh!). I plan on going with the "shower in the bath" option because my bathroom is so small and has a slanted roof. I haven't thought about the lighting around or above the mirror yet, but you can bet it'll be in my head now. I guess maybe falling in love with a lamp will help make the decision!
ReplyDeleteI was a little disappointed . . . I was wanting to see how you were going to pull a bathroom/study combo off!! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the inspiration photos, have a safe and fun road trip.
haha, oh! is that what's been going wrong with my ol' wrinkle remover cream? It's the darn lighting! Well, I'm off to get some (magical) light bulbs in there. haha. But before I do that I have to tell you how much fun I'm having catching up on your blog. I love your taste, especially the last photo. And I have to tell you that I was just in a few antique shops yesteday looking for milk glass bargains and couldn't find any. Is it just here in California? But yikes. It's so pricey. I can' wait to see the tile you chose.

We're renovating our master bathroom - ripped out the old bathroom right down to the studs. There are soooooo many decisions to make! But I knew that I wanted a chandelier, so that was an easy choice. We're actually installing two chandeliers - one above the tub and one more or less centered in the room. And we're going with wall sconces above the vanity. We're going to hang one long rectangular mirror the width of the vanity and install the sconces on the mirror. I love that look, and I'm really surprised hubby agreed to it.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a 7-month reno so far, but the end may finally be in sight - the floor tiling is almost finished, and then we can FINALLY install the tub & toilet & vanity (which hubby is making, so that could add on another 6 months till the reno is done!) If you'd like to see what we're doing with our bathroom reno, I blogged about it here:
