Pantry Skirt Fatigue

Yep, my pantry skirt is looking a bit tired these days
so while at Ikea recently
I picked up some more of their high quality slash inexpensive cotton twill fabric.
I love the yellow stripe but unfortunately they don't seem to stock that anymore.
So, I picked up some apple green and deep pink.
Not sure yet whether I will actually use the pink stripe in the pantry but I just couldn't resist...

Since the yellow striped curtains were on the vertical line....
I decided to go with the horizontal line this time in the green.

Interesting to see the different effect played out by the horizontal lines, don't you think?

I sewed in a vertical lined panel at the end of each horizontal panel....
to take care of missing material. (yep, did not intend to do a horizontal design when I bought this material so I would have been a bit short)

The vertical panels add a little interest but also saved me returning to Ikea for more material....
just wasn't going to happen when it is 3 hours away!

You can see the vertical panel on the far right....actually frames the horizontal panels nicely.
What is hiding under there? Why, washer and dryer of course.

The apple green is a lovely fresh hit for summer.
Now,  what should I do with that pink stripe, huh?

  4. I love your green striped skirt! I think the whole skirt idea is so much fun because you can change the whole look whenever you like and fairly simply too.

  5. I like the green too and have questions: how is it fastened at the top? and is it awkward to lift it every time you do a load of laundry? Also, I noticed with both the yellow vertical and the new green horizontal you've left them long so they pool on the floor and I wonder why? Seems they'd be in the way of the vacuum cleaner or the mop.

    1. It is fastened by velcro at the top. I have a strip of velcro running along the underside of the counter (full length). I then sewed on velcro tabs to the material at about 6" intervals. When I do a load of laundry I simply flip the material up on to the counter to load the washer or dryer and then flip it back down. I love the fact that those machines are busily working away while I am in the kitchen but discretely hidden under the curtains. My laundry supplies are in one of the cupboards above. As for the pooled curtains, well that is simply an aesthetic preference of mine. I love all curtains more when they are pooled on the floor....gives a nice touch of softness to the hanging material. My vacuum slides under them easily enough or I flip them up when doing a more vigorous cleaning of floors etc. One of those situations where design rules over practicality I guess.
You are very observant Jill.... I love that!

  7. It looks nice Donna. I like that you inverted the stripes at the ends to fill it in. It works!

    1. Well Nan I have to admit that I am a girl with the odd allergy so I tend to vacuum a bit more than the average individual...this is true. I can certainly imagine our old cat playing under there in his day and having a grand old time!
